About us

What we do:

Mission

The mission of Oromo Resource Center of Minnesota (ORCMN) is to help connect and assist the Oromo & East African Community in Minnesota with social service programs, education support, and access to technology in a culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate way. We reach out and provide our services to the youth, families, and elders in our community. Click on the tabs above to learn more about our programs and services.

Youth services include programs to enrich their growth and learning through workshops, volunteering opportunities, and much more. We run a special After-School Program called Spark After-School, where kids get help completing their home works, work with tutors for Math & Reading, and a coding class with a software engineer.

Family services include assistance with healthcare applications, housing resources, immigration resources, food  assistance applications, cash assistance applications, emergency assistance applications. We also serve the elders in our community by assisting them with government applications, food delivery, and transportation.

History:

The Oromo Resource Center of Minnesota (ORCMN) was established in 2020 during the crisis of Covid-19 to meet the various needs of the Oromo & East African Community in the State of Minnesota. Covid-19 crisis laid bare the lack of services that the Oromo community faced pre-covid-19. The board members came together to establish Oromo Resource Center of Minnesota to create a resource center where every Oromo in the State of Minnesota can walk in or call to get any resource they need.
